I Love It!

A long time ago on a TV set far, far away, I saw this late at night a couple of times. This and War of the Planets. I never got to see the other two films in the Gamma One series. I just caught it again on TCM, also late at night.

Watching it out of boredom, and just for funzies, Wild Wild Planet (or Criminals of the Galaxy, as the Italians titled it) looked as cheaply made as I knew it would, took itself a little too seriously, was somewhat nolstalgic, a bit shagedelic, but mostly weird. Cops and crooks in the future, basically, with gadgets and strange stuff thrown in, and a sinister plot leading straight to an evil super-mastermind worthy of the Golden Age comics.

I wish the Gamma One series got a boxed-set release on Blu-Ray, and hopefully with a CD of the music in all four flicks. That keyboard-driven music would make some exotic lounge music. Some of it still sounds weird, even by today's post-modern standards. It is desirable to have these scifi flicks remastered with better picture and sound, but it would not make them seem any better.

I don't know if I could say loved, but I think I saw this when I was 6-7 years old in the very early 70's. I had always remembered the shrinking people, and the sun glass wearing guys with extra arms. I saw the description, and I knew there are only so many movies with shrinking people. So, TMC underground got dvred the other night, and a childhood memory was restored.

Not a great film, but interesting just the same. It's odd how as kids the horrible effects don't distract the way they do now, and you completely dismiss the issue between the toys and life size vehicles, and the cuts between day and night back and forth.

Everytime they would show a night scene with the toys, I kept wondering what planet they were supposed to be on. There was no atmosphere. Then, the live day shots, its obvious they are on earth. This makes for a very disjointed feel to the film. That said, it was good for some laughs, and cool for nostalgic reasons.

From 1965. Pretty good and the subject of climate change was a major part of the storyline.

I didn't delete it, and I will watch it again when I'm less tired and can pay a bit more attention.

I'm watching it right now on TCM.

"what do you call it"
"a freak, a sickening freak"

"don't touch it"
"why not"
"I'm not certain, just don't touch it"

Classic!

Best part is they guy saying not to touch the freak just got done touching the mutant miniature arm on the freak. Makes sense, do as I say, not as I do.

I think the best line was during the fight with the girls. "Be careful of those devices on their chests!"
Wonder which devices he meant?
