Just watch the near end of the film after the War Lord is wounded and speaks to the lady. IT IS A RIP OFF FROM "For Whom the Bell Tolls" when Gary Cooper is telling Ingrid Bergman exactly the same thing in (almost) exactly the same way

I'm a fan of both movies, and a fan of both Heston and Cooper. There is some undeniable similarity, but I don't think Hemingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls should have a stranglehold on strong, poetic endings.
