The most haunting film about nuclear war

Even though Threads is a lot more graphic, I think there is something even more eerie about Th War Game. Anyone agree?

I definitely agree! Even though I only saw a few snippets of this film in another documentary, those scenes packed such a punch that years later (when The War Game finally came out on DVD) I remembered them. A brilliant film! Threads is OK, but a lot of Watkins' poignant social criticism was dropped in favor of a simple 'anti nuclear-war' message.

I agree. It is better than Threads and the Day After. I believe it is due to the lack of "hollywood" type drama the other 2 movies have, especially The Day After.

I thought the war game was excellent. Despite it's age it still packs a mighty punch and provokes thought, which is exactly what it should do.

However I thought Threads dealt with the issues faced by everyday people more throughly and also Threads showed the radioactive fallout and detailed it's effects in a much more graphic and hence (I would hope) more memorable way.

The issue I have with Threads is that it is a bit too Hollywoody (thank god it wasn't made now, Hollywood would've had Mel Gibson finding a cure for radiation sickness and saving the world *sigh*) and spends far too much time on plot there isn't really any need for ie. Ruth and her partner going to view a flat.

Overall I liked Threads more but I think The War Game should be compulsory veiwing for 4th year secondary school students across the globe.

If the next generation grew up knowing the horror of nuclear weapons we'd go back to sharp sticks and fists.

Watch Gembaku no ko.
Made from the nation that really suffered it. Not only fictional baby stories made by people that don't have the smallest clue of what the effects could be in loco, real.
