One of the most stunning films I've ever seen

OK. I've read the book twice, and just last week acquired the film, which has been on my radar for about 15 years.

I'm watching part three tonight, and can't wait.

The film(s) is/are unbelievably good... Bondarchuk uses just about every device known to cinema in the sixties, but they rarely are present without reason (part two possessed one scene where i thought it went over the line...).

If you have read the book, you will find little to complain about. It will simply make you want to read it again. If you'd like to see what kind of film Tarkovsky would have made if he had the entire might of the Soviet government behind him, see this. I had NO idea I'd be seeing the best of Tarkovsky and Kubrick mixed with Anger and Brakhage mixed with Godard and Lean.

Seriously, this film is so epic it humbles Lawrence of Arabia, and designates Dr. Zhivago to a dumpster.

First part - 10/10
Second part - 9/10

"Rampart: Squad 51."
