Is this an action film?

I feel like watching a good action film..

For anybody else who might be wondering about this, I can tell you that this movie has exciting action. Before making this, Burt Lancaster may have thought that his action days were over but he proved that he wasn't too old for this type of movie.

Amazing and realistic action for a movie made in 1964. This is one action movie that has stood the test of time.

The story has all sorts of twists and turns. It is the battle of will and wits between Colonel Franz Von Waldheim (Paul Scofield) and Inspector Paul Labiche (Burt Lancaster). Burt Lancaster and Paul Scofield deliver intense performances rarely seen in action movies these days.

The train action shots and aerial bombardment sequences are all exhilarating. There are great shots from inside the airplane cockpit. The legend has it that Burt Lancaster performed all his own stunts for this movie. Again, according to legend, the aerial bombardment sequence of the rail station was done with real dynamite because the French rail authorities wanted to demolish that section and enlarge the track guage anyway.

"This is a mission, not a fancy dress ball !!"
