Shooting A Shark

At one point when Bond goes diving, Leiter shoots a shark to keep the other sharks occupied and (presumably) away from Bond. I am not a shark expert, but would this not be the exact WRONG thing to do? It seems to me that this would attract even more sharks and send them into a feeding frenzy.

The blood could, yes. But it should still give Bond enough time to escape. And hey, it's a movie.

We have since learned that the scent of dead shark keeps other sharks away. Effective shark repellant is based upon this recipe.

I think you meant the SCENT of dead shark, not the sense.

Yep, thanx :)

I just assumed the sharks would be more occupied with a bleeding shark than Bond himself. Didn't know about the shark repellent though, quite fascinating.

I wonder how come Bond didn't have any Shark Repellent Batspray? Isn't Q-branch as technologically advanced as Batman?

Shark behavior is much better understood now than it was even at the time of Jaws, much less Thunderball. Thanks to advancements in science, the internet, and Shark Week, we now know that they should have just painted all of the sharks up like cabaret girls (failing to leave a patch so the skin could breath), so they'd all die of skin suffocation and Bond could have dived the wreck undisturbed.
