Greatest Ken Adams set ever

The hall room where all 9 double-0 agents assemble. What an amazing setting.

I still say the volcano base in You Only Live Twice, but this was a close second and endlessly copied.

reply

Yeah, I would have gone with the volcano base too.

I agree except with the doors to the room and ceiling in the room. If they were just a *bit taller, they'd be perfect!

Interesting. You're afraid of insects and women. Ladybugs must render you catatonic.

reply

Yup, that's the place to be. By having this huge conference as well as the SPECTRE meeting, Thunderball took on grandiose dimensions the previous ones had lacked. And the film still has this "definitive bedrock Bond" feel thanks to those scenes.

the volcano base is tough to beat

reply

No way. I suppose it is the best set in all of Thunderball, which is one of my gripes with Thunderball.

It has always me why Ken Adam never got any Oscars for his wonderful set designs. My favorite in the space launch center inside the volcano in You Only.

I have got to stop writing posts like this! I sound like an idiot! My apologies, everyone.

What I was TRYING to say was that I've always wondered why Ken Adam never got an Oscar for art direction. The 00's briefing room is gorgeous, but my all time favorite KA set is the volcano space launching pad in YOLT.
