The double speed action scenes spoiled it

The sped up action on land, in particular the fight in the beginning and end, wasn't needed. The climax especially because we've just had the long underwater battle sequence, so even normal speed would seem faster and more intense.

It dates it and makes an otherwise pretty spectacular production look silly.

It does look cheap today, but they were making use of the technology avaliable to them at the time.

I think it may be time to go home
take me round the world one more time
Why not!

Call me crazy, but I prefer this over the extremely slow moving boat action from, ahem, Speed 2.

"Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man..."

this phenomena also occurred in goldfinger, i'm so used of seeing this technique in the bond flicks it really doesn't bother me, as these are airing on television this summer i kind of wish that speed was used on this entire flick as i find it the slowest most boring of all bond flicks starring connery and prefer never say never again, this is the only one i'm not looking forward to see airing and thought i might even skip it and look forward to you only live twice, someone said this has the worst felix, don't even recall felix being in this, can't remember the bond girls or much of the villains, this movie even has my least favorite soundtrack, i'm planning on tuning in anyway in case i might change my mind, but ever since i was a kid this put me to sleep, the only upcoming classic bond movie i'm not really looking forward to is for your eyes only, i don't see why some people prefer the more realistic dry flicks, while for your eyes only is much set during winter this seem to suit as a summer movie watch, i don't know what your experience is but this is the first summer i can recall that none of the national lampoon's vacation movies has aired so far. i can't recall one solitary thing i like about this movie, hopefully i'll change my mind as it airs later today.

in the midnight sun,
she walked away with fun,
as people come and gone she remained,
without her sun will turn me wrinkled and grey,
remembrance her sexy smile no one alike what a waste,
as the playful hotness not back,
she walked off with light im withering in the black.

Peter Hunt was always trying to push the available technology to create more dynamic action scenes. It doesn't really work at the end of Thunderball but that's just as likely due to the rear projection of the backgrounds as anything. When he left after helming the masterpiece that was OHMSS, the series became very dull and boring in the editing department.
