Dixieland 'Stars And Stripes Forever' In Film

Anybody have any idea who does the Dixieland version of "Stars and Stripes Forever" that's featured in the film during many of the scenes where Murray's neglecting jobs? I've always loved this song, especially this version and in context to the film, but I'd love to have it if anybody has any ideas since it wasn't listed in the credits.

There are no credits, but the piano playing sounds a lot like the great Johnny Maddox and his combo. Very popular piano man from the early 1950's-late 1970's.

This movie had one of the most jarring, annoying, and irritating soundtracks ever.

That seems a little knee-jerk of a reaction to me. If it were truly "jarring" you wouldn't be able to watch the rest of the film.

The music is meant to be jarring, obviously. Murray is always jarring the people he encounters. He likes to shake things up and march to his own drummer.

Must not watch many movies....

I watch a lot of movies and the music was definitely jarring. Going from quiet dialog scene directly into "Stars and Stripes" forever played at full volume is very jarring!

The loud marching band music is so annoying that it must be intentional. Murray explained to Sandra that he learned to ask women to marry him in order to startle them into paying attention to him. I think the music was meant to startle us in a similar way. Like the French new wave films that were so influential at that time the movie also uses some jump cuts which have a similar jarring effect.

I'm curious to know if the stage production used the music or a similar device and if the loud music passages in the film correspond in any way to scene changes or other happenings in the play.
