Long ago and far away....

In 1964, I was stationed at USAF High Wycombe. And used to occasionally drive from Stokenchurch, Bucks, to Marlowe.

One day, I was driving along the little country road (I had a big yank Rambler station wagon,) and heard a buzzing sound. I looked up, and saw an ancient plane! And I pulled over, looked up again, and saw another....

Now I'd read a lot of science fiction in my youth, and I was beginning to think I'd gotten caught in some kind of time warp. About then, a couple of contemporary (with me,) English cars came along, so I figured there was something else going on.

The activity seemed to come from off to the left, where there was a sizable hedge. I stopped, stood up on the edge of the wagon, looked over the hedge, and saw, in the distance, the hangars. And a couple of other weird planes in the distance.

About then, I remembered. I'd seen a notice of some film about early aviation being filmed in the area, at RAF Booker, an old disused RAF base. Turns out that was Booker, and this, of course, was the film....

What a great memory to have. I envy you for it. I can imagine that time warp feeling! I'm watching the movie right now, and its widescreen cinematography is beautiful.
