song

does this have the song 'those magnificent men in their flying machines they go up tiddly up up they go down tiddly down down. They can fly upside down with their feet in the air, they don't think of danger, they really don't care. Newton would think they had made a mistake to see those young men and the chances they take' etc and if so does anyone know if it can be bought from anywhere or if it has a title other than 'those magnificent men in their flying machines' as my music download thing doesn't seem to have it.

The movie does indeed have the song from which you typed the lyrics. I just watched the movie for the first time on the AMC channel and that song was played at the beginning as well as the end (tho AMC flipped the screen and showed future previews, so you don't hear the song).

Why don't you try checking the movie's second title "How I Learned to Fly From London to Paris in 25 Hours and 11 Minutes" or whatever it was, and see what song you can find?

I'll only be kidding if it doesn't work.

Or you could check AMC's future listings. I'm certain they will show this one again sometime soon.

Thanks, i'll try typing that. Is AMC an American channel? because i'm english and don't recall hearing of it.

AMC, American Movie Classics, yes, that is an American channel.

But at least now you do know that the song is from this movie. You could simply look for a copy of the movie.

Thanks.

The words (at the start of the film, at least) are:

Those magnificent men in their flying machines,
they go up tiddly up up,
they go down tiddly down down.

They enchant all the ladies and steal all the scenes,
with their up tiddly up up
and their down tiddly down down.

Up, down, flying around,
looping the loop and defying the ground.

Their, all, frightfully keen,
those magnificent men in their flying machines.

They can fly upside with their feet in the air,
They don’t think of danger, they really don’t care.
Newton would think he had made a mistake,
To see those young men and the chances they take.

Those magnificent men in their flying machines,
they go up tiddly up up,
they go down tiddly down down.

They enchant all the ladies and steal all the scenes,
with their up tiddly up up
and their down tiddly down down.

Up, down, flying around,
looping the loop and defying the ground.

Their, all, frightfully keen,
those magnificent men in their flying machines.

The theme is related to a theme from Mozart, from the Magic Flute I believe. The Monty Python guys did a famous spoof on it called "I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK." using the same melody more or less. I don't know which came first. The Magnificant Men theme is more done in a march style. Mozart had a sense of humour and it was picked up by these film score composers who would be very educated musicians, unlike what I think happens today. Or today's composers know more about gadgets and electronics, less about actual notes.
