Movies like this?

This was the coolest spy flick i've seen, so subtle in its handling and with a stronger story than most so called thrillers that hit you with a sledgehammer to make a point.

anyways thx in advance

Not so good as The Spy who came in from the Cold, but maybe "Spy Game" has a bit of the same feeling?

The Russia House, also based on a John le Carre novel.

Let's get dangerous!

If you're in the mood for something a bit more contemporary with some humor, check out "The Tailor of Panama", also by Le Carre. "The Constant Gardener", another one of Le Carre's more recent efforts, also quite solid.

The Manchurian Candidate, the original.

Army in the Shadows (or Army of Shadows). One of Melville's, it's about the French Resistance, and has a very similar tone.

The 2006 German movie The Lives of Others about the East German Stasi has a very similiar feel to it.

When trying to think of other movies like this, no spy films come to mind at all. I guess this is unlike any spy movie I've ever seen. Instead I think of the classic French films "Pickpocket", "Escalator to the Gallows", "Alphaville" and the Hungarian masterpiece "Werckmeister Harmonies". None of these are remotely related to spies, but the mood and presentation is very similar.
