Wig?

Was Richard Burton wearing a hair piece in this film? His hair doesn't look natural.

reply

No, it was natural and looked natural to me -- looked exactly the same in "Night of the Iguana" the year before and "The Sandpiper" the year after. If he'd had a wig it would have looked a lot fuller -- Ever seen those ridiculous mops they put on top of James Stewart and John Wayne in the Sixties and Charlton in the Seventies? The only really convincing job I've ever seen done with filling in male hair is William Shatner's through the tv run of "Star Trek" (1966-69).

I hope that is a joke about Shatner's wig. A more obvious piece would be hard to nominate. And the girdle. How I missed that as a kid I'll never know.

And that aint a dig at Shatner either, who I think is a lot of fun and a decent actor. But reality is what it is.
