When the children sing 'La' a note to follow 'So'

It doesn't??

I'm not sure what you are saying here.

In the common do-re-mi scale the note "la" does follow "so." Are you seeing something else?

But in the line from the song, "La, a note to follow So", La precedes So instead of following it. I guess that's the joke the OP is trying to make.

The biggest anachronism in the film is Maria's hairstyle!

Which wasn't any more fashionable in 1965 than it had been in the late 1930s.
