We walked into the actual church Maria and The Captain were married in…it was where the children talked to the nuns thru the gate when wanting to see Maria. They were married in a modest church, not a grand cathedral shown in the movie.

If you mean the escape, then no. The von Trapps actually just boarded a train and left Austria with no interference. The mountain crossing was so much more eventful, even if not true.
Well, the escape is one thing, but I also meant the opening where Julie Andrews sings: "The hills are alive..."

Ah, I read that about the von Trapp's leaving after the wedding through the mountains, not the OP's checking the mountains on his tour of Salzburg. Got it.
Supposedly, the mountain shots were on location so that would be cool to visit that as well.
Yeah, would be wonderful. Saw the film for the first time recently and quite enjoyed this classic.

They moved to Vermont and opened a hotel that still stands today (rebuilt twice after fires) and is run by a couple of the grandchildren, in Stowe. Trapp Family Lodge.

Saw the abbey, all the locations around Salzburg, the Gazebo, and of course the hill from Doe a Deer.
It's a beautiful country.
Visiting Salzburg & doing the TSOM tour is great fun. Besides seeing the abbey and the main square (with the horse statue fountain), I loved standing at the sites of the Mirabell Palace where they filmed parts of Do A Deer, and walking along the path by the yellow wall where Julie Andrews sings I've Got Confidence. That was about 50 years after I fell in love with TSOM when seeing it as a kid in 1965!
