How realistic is this? (spoilerish)

For anyone who's worked a suicide prevention line then or now, or who has knowledge of how crisis lines operate: How realistic is the response in this film?

I'm particularly wondering about some of the operator's fibs, like when he said he was getting coffee but was really getting the call traced, when he was conferring with investigators but said he was alone, when he kept the babbling barber on the line when he took another call. Certainly Inga was looking for help or else she wouldn't have called, but his responses to her weren't entirely honest.

Also, wouldn't the crisis line already be set up to ease traceability, even in 1965? It seems like the scenario in this film would be fairly routine.
