Saw this myself; although not listed on Amazon yet.

Hopefully the Feb date stays true!

And, Criterion gives the runtime as the full 45 minutes rather than the 40' US version shown here at IMDb. (They're not always able to fully restore films, depending on what copies they can find.)

I don't know if it was the Criterion release but we just saw this movie up in Columbus yesterday after the Executive Producer of Criterion, Kim Hendrickson, gave a Q&A about the Criterion process. I bet it was a Criterion release because it was not on film and the picture looked VERY good for an old print.

I was about to give the movie a thumbs down until the club scene with Satan. It also had some funny parts in it before the club scene. I liked especially when Simon gave that man hands again which he then used to hit his son (maybe daughter) over the head. And they clean cut guy that was obviously gay was told to not come back until his face was covered in hair. I really really don't like movies with subititles either but I have to say I enjoyed this film.

I just saw the new Criterion DVD and the picture is really good, by far the best this film have ever looked. Plus it includes a quite interesting documentary on Buñuel's mexican films, directed by Emilio Maillé called "Un Buñuel mexicain". Besides an interview with actress Silvia Pinal and a neat booklet that includes an essay by film historian Michael Wood, an interview with Buñuel on Simón del desierto conducted by José de la Colina and Tomás Pérez Turrent, finally some stills.

If you are fan of Luis Buñuel, in particular of this film, Criterion DVD is a must own!

Let's hope criterion could release a proper DVD version for another masterpieces directed by Buñuel like Los olvidados, Nazarín, Él (This Strange Passion) or Ensayo de un Crimen (The Criminal Life of Archibaldo de la Cruz), just to name a few.
