Rosemary Forsythe

For me she's the film's glowing gem, especially when her hair is down to her shoulders in the scene where McClure carries her across the threshold. Sheer, unadulterated loveliness. She was equally gorgeous in The War Lord and What Happened to Aunt Alice.

She's also very good in the Columbo episode, Murder by the Book. It's a fairly small part (as the wife of the murder victim), but she makes the most of it.

I was only 9 when I saw this movie, and Rosemary Forsythe became my yardstick for what a beautiful woman should look like. At 9 with buck teeth, too many freckles and stick straight dirty blonde hair, I felt I had a long way to go. She was simply luminous.

reply

I thought she was wooden and lifeless in THE WAR LORD.
And while she was much better in this film, I still feel that her performance tends to drag the movie down.
Especially her early scenes with Doug McClure.

Hey, vpiltus, come back to the Hollywood Homicide board. You made a comment in 2007 that I challenged in 2011 and you have yet to answer for it.

I agree. I'm surprised she didn't have a bigger career in Hollywood, although she was in a lot of made for TV movies and guest stars on particular TV episodes, especially in the '70s and '80s.

reply

Yes, I also think Rosemary is a jewel in this film. When she speaks her wedding vows I am transfixed and teary-eyed.

reply

I'm only 30 minutes into this movie and to me, her acting is very wooden. I thought Katherine Ross was the better actress and the fact that I've heard of Ross before I started watching this movie and not Rosemary Forsyth, confirms it for me. P.S. Maybe her career was hindered by the fact she didn't have an "e" at the end of her last name?

Rosemary was the heart of the film. She was luminous. Those 2 special scenes~~reciting her wedding vows, and being carried over the threshold of that cabin by her husband~~well, both scenes move me to tears. Every time.
Oh, and.....Ever since I first saw Jimmy Stewart in this film when I was 6 years old I have wanted to marry him. He was wonderful.
