Big Sur today.

Kind of sad that beatnik sculptors, free spirit artists, and others so inclined can hardly even get a campsite here. The Idyllic 60's really were... idyllic.

According to this movie, in the 60s Big Sur was so inexpensive that a struggling artist could live in an isolated "shack" right on the beach until she earned enough money to be able to afford to live in San Francisco. It's impossible to believe that today. Could that ever have been true?

sounds fun.

Big Sur still retains some of that 60s feel. I always stop at the Big Sur Taphouse and Nepenthe when driving up the coast.
There's also The Esalen Institute at Big Sur, which doesn't get more touchy feely 1960s! Pretty Groovy.
