I *think* you just overdo it a bit.
A squid is a squid is a squid.
Interpretations, however, are yours.
This movie is a top 10 of all movies to me. It does what a movie should and could do, after the theatre. Showing reality is sh**. Theatre is never reality and movie is neither. The medium 'film' is much too good to be used to try to document 1:1, to show real reality. If that is what I wanted, I'd go out into the streets!
What I love is imagination, poesy, stacking different levels of existence, jumping around in time. And thereby adding a new level into it.
And this movie does all of this in a fantastic manner!
But I was carried away, sorry.
No, I don't believe that everything and anything in theatre or movies is a 1:1 reality, and neither does each and every inch and item have to have a deeper meaning. *Maybe* the squid had, though chances are low.
