What was the point of Nino killing the guard and framing another?

That scene seemed senseless to me. Why did Nino go through the trouble of sneaking up to the other gang member, stealing his knife and stabbing another member to frame the first?

The fact that Nino just released the colonel and Manco to make it look like they escaped is all that Indio needed to tell his gang to hunt down the two bounty killers.

If Indio made it look like the escapees killed the guard, that would have been understandable, but he didn't! He set up one of his own men for no reason...

That's a good point. The frame-up overcomplicated things that could of been simpler.

reply

Well, if one of the gang members is shown to be a traitor, then that makes the hunt all the more agitating for the gang members. They get more motivated to catch the two bounty hunters I guess. Plus it adds suspicion of each other into the mix.

reply

it also explains how the bounty hunters escaped

reply

I always thought Indio and Nino were doing it to eliminate members of the gang, making their cut of the bank job bigger.

reply

It explains the escaping of the bounty hunters, their escape would be highly improbable without the aid of an imposter within Indio's gang.

spot on. A gang member with a easily recognizable weapon belonging to them - the knife - is used to ill the guard. The framed gang member is killed so he can't spread doubt. Indio wanted the gang eliminated anyway therefore kills 2 and there is real plausability to Manco's and the Colonol's escape. This wouldn't have been possible without help.

that is just some of his way to eliminate his own men. he plans on eliminating them all aside from nino.

How come signatures aren't cursive anymore

reply

Rest assured he was going to eliminate Nino too.

reply

I didn't get that feeling. He needed someone to take care of him and roll his cigarettes.

But the frame job was just a good way to get a head start on killing off the rest of the band.
