Who was to bounty hunter who in a flashback(?) had a wife and a 18-month-old son? Who was the guy taking revenge on him? What happened? I missed most of this scene.

It's not a flashback.Indio had been broken out of prison and is taking his revenge on the man who put him behind bars.
He kills the man's wife and son,and then has an unfair stand off with him and wins.
The only flashback(s)in the film are the scenes where Indio kills Mortimer's brother in law and rapes his sister.
