If they ever

remake this I will have to kill a small animal...
It is of its time with the only actors who could play this.
This is one of the best films I have ever seen.
I saw it first when I was very young , in a household where there was racism that I didn't understand ; this film showed me that I was not going mad with confusion.
This film made me fall in love with Sidney Poitier and break my heart over Elizabeth Hartman's predicament.
When she feels she will never get out to see Gordon and then the messenger contacts her at her doorway...I defy anyone seeing this film from the start not to cry when seeing her joy as she realises she has not been forgotten..
I had seen Millie Perkins' 'Diary Of Anne Frank'and was starting to think that Shelley Winters would just play a grumpy 'bad' woman. She did SO much more than that.
She was every nasty brutal racist woman I had come across..she was frightening.
I found it so touching that she was quoted as saying how difficult it was to be so obnoxious and rude about Sidney Poitier an actor she admired very much.
Every time I see this film I learn something new, I see all the truisms and emotional subtleties that these gifted actors brought to this ground breaking film.

Introduced it to a friend the other night....made for sharing
