Was Selina 17 or 18?

When Gordan tells her that he told the school she was 18, she said April 23, which I took to
mean she wasn't 18 yet. In fact, assuming their relationship had been taking place in the
summer, she would have been a young 17. Gordon's facial expression was one of surprise
and dismay.
If Selina was 17 she was still a minor and her mother could have pressed charges against Gordon for
kidnapping. Also she would have had to consent to Selina going to school. This was quite a bombshell to have been dropped during the last five mnutes of the movie.

I took it like she is 18 and she turned that age April 23 :)

I think she was 18. I think her stating her birthday out loud was her realizing that she was an adult and didn't have to put up with her mother anymore.

Also he grandfather and her mother's friend all commented on her not being a little girl anymore.

Hate to nit-pic but in 1965, with the possible exception of the draft, you were not considered an adult till the age of 21
