Othello and Dr. Christian Szell Share a Lethal Weapon!

There is a slight problem with the original text in that as another poster has said, Othello is searched prior to entering the bedchamber and has no obvious weapon. To address this plot hole, when he was playing the role on stage, Olivier had a customised bracelet constructed that concealed a blade that could be used to commit suicide. It was spring loaded a bit like a flick knife/switchblade and it's retained for the film version. It was this same device that he reprised so memorably as Szell the villain of Marathon Man some 20 years later.
