Best opening sequence in post 40s noir. lesbians shooting gallery murders speed and everybody looks high on H or could it be my imagination. I saw Once a Thief a couple of times in the 'sixties and it is a fine crime drama from a French producer, kind of self-consciously noir, but good. John Davis Chandler is in fine form with a generally excellent cast (including Jack Palance, Tony Musante, and Jeff Corey). I found a good grey market DVD copy in the net at ScooterMovieShop.

Been a John Davis Chandler fan ever since I saw "Mad Dog Coll" over 50 years ago.
He was also in the movie Outlaw Josey Whales and had the best line in the movie.
"You're wanted Whales"
What's the matter with his character in this movie though? He has this constantly slurred speech like he was dead drunk or totally f-cked up on heroin the entire movie.

I was wondering about his slurred speech. His teeth looked different than they usually do. I wondered if he was meant to be playing a character who had his mouth bashed about at some point which had left him with that type of speech. One of the other gang members is shown with a bloody mouth with most of his front teeth missing.
