I would like to know whether anyone has a copy of the title music 'Image' - the music is memorable to me yet I have never been able to locate a copy.

I agree with your comment it's memorable somehow sort of spooky and very dated but mod-ish,the opening scenes where there is a tracking shot over London, perfectly fits the era of mid-sixties Britain.
The track is called "Image" recorded by Alan Haven on (Fontana)released as a single in 1965.
It is also on his *Image(s) L.P!(1967)

At the moment - for how long? "Image" can be heard on youtube.

The song "Image " is a cover of a 1960 song by Hank Levine and his orchestra
you can hear the original hear http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTZdtacVTLo

Why does it not appear on the recently-released (by "Renown") DVD of the film? Copyright?

reply

Probably because the US edition of the film was used as source material. That release had what has been described as a 'cheesy lounge singer vocal' track as intro, not the version of 'Image' so beloved by fans of the UK edition.

Incidentally, the music on the film is *not* Alan Haven, good as his recording is. neither is it the original by the Hank Levine Orchestra of the USA. (And its not the cracking version by the London All-Star either!)

The cover of 'Image' for the film is by Johnny Gregory, a British arranger who produced a *lot* of covers of popular music (Embassy records and the like, which British fans of a certain age will know all about) and general middle of the road stuff in the 50s-70s. I have done a lot of searching for a recording of Gregory's 'Image' but not found one yet. You'll be the first to know if I do.

Thanks. Very interesting (I remember "Embassy" records - from Woolworths - well!).
