I have to say I like this little film.
It was on in the UK a week ago and I watched it again. Ok, it is no "Alien" or "The Day The Earth Stood Still" but it has a certain charm and some spooky moments.
More great fun than great film.
I read the book and this film is a perfect example of how to bungle a film adaptation of a good book. The book is surprisingly well written and features the police trying to track down "Medra" - "Mr Bostok" in the novel. There aren't any soldiers in it at all. The characters are all well rounded out and the narrative is crystal clear.
I thoroughly recommend the book THE NIGHT CALLERS by Frank Crisp, to anyone interested in science fiction, or film making.

Personally it's one of my favorite movies ever. Of course nostalgia has allot to do with it. I first saw this here in the States as a 10 year old on Saturday night "Creature Features" from a NY television station back around 1969 or 1970 or so. I have the DVD and I think it's still very well made. I appreciate it even more now, even if it, obviously, doesn't scare me much anymore 40 years later. I love it from the very starting theme song-it's so 1960's (and captures the mood of the times very well) and the great opening shot over England is just very well done. Fantastic opening photography.
Matter of fact I think i'll watch the DVD again tonight at 8:30pm-the same time that "Creature Features" used to air when I was a kid.
Of course i'm not comparing it to the novel, i'm just judging this only on it's own merits. They sure don't make horror movies like this anymore...
Thought NC was enjoyable. Most of these low budget Horror/Sci-Fis were not meant to be dissected by Roger Ebert, but to simply entertain. I'm glad they exist. Much fun!
shareI remember seeing only part of this movie as a kid on CBC Channel 9 in Windsor---they used to show horror film every Friday night at midnight in the early '80's--I'd also watch SCREAM THEATRE on WXYZ Channel Seven at 1:00. I do recall one creepy scene when a woman in the film is alone in a room,she hears this strange noise and feels an even stranger presence and starts getting scared---until a man turns the light on and everything becomes normal---wouldn't mind seeing that again!
