Can anyone identify MEDRA's voice?

I know I've heard MEDRA's voice before - it's a very well-known British actor from the 50s and 60s but I can't remember his name. Can anyone identify him? It's definitely not Robert Crewdson. The voice has been added later.

it's not robert rietty, is it?

reply

No. Rietty has an Italian accent. "Medra" has a British accent. Thanks for replying, but it's definitely not him.

Are you sure the voice was added later? I met Robert Crewdson on a few occasions and MEDRA's speaking voice certainly sounded like his. He had a wonderful stage voice. I was sorry to learn of his passing.

Some sources I've read say that the voice of Medra has been dubbed by John Westbrook. If that's the case, it makes me wonder why they would bother to hire Robert Crewdson at all!

Lines are often post synched for reasons other than quality of performance - intrusive background noise, bad room acoustics, lines overlapping with those of another actor etc. etc.

With a very small role if the original actor isn't available on a given day for rerecording it is not uncommon for a voice artist to dub all their lines. In this case as there was very little lip synch this would be particularly easy to do even though there were quite a few lines.

I'm kicking myself for being so stupid - I've just realised that it's John Carson! All that's happened is that he's raised the pitch of his voice so that it's not immediately obvious that it's him. But it is.
