'Perhaps Meyer's best script '
...But he didnt write it. Interesting that after starting with the Auteur concept (Teas, Eve) he moved to simply directing other folks' scripts for a while.

shareThough set in Mo., this is is one super-twisted Southern Gothic affair. It trumps "Baby Doll" by leaps & bounds. Hoo-Ray for TCM for screening this freakin' gem. I've never seen a better made Russ Meyer film. The Fritz Lang influences kept me hummin'. I'd buy the DVD of this. TCM, keep'em comin'. The screwier/wackier/odd-ballier, the better. Lars would be proud to screen this @ the Alamo Drafthouse Weird wednesday here in Austin.
shareMy favorite Russ Meyer film followed by Faster Pussycat Kill Kill and then either Lorna or Cherry, Harry & Raquel.
shareI agree completely.
If every Russ Meyer film had this good a script...they'd all be great.
And Hal Hopper is better than good. He turns in one of the greatest
performances of all-time as Sidney Brenshaw.
It's certainly his most tightly plot-driven (and least chest-size-driven). It's less dynamic and delightful than "Faster Pussycats" or "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls," but it is surely a classic intersection between classic grindhouse Southern melodramas and Meyer's particular tongue-in-cheek zestiness.
shareIt's his best film, though.
