What was the actual ship used in Morituri?

Watching it now and note the scene where there is an aerial view of the ship with false stack and superstructure. Handsome ship. What was the name of the real one used in the film?

Also, Japanese submarine crewman appeared too friendly in taking aboard survivors of the sunken American ship. Compared to their actual record in treating POWs.

Someone wrote in trivia it was the Lane Victory (US liberty ship) now a floating museum in L.A. harbor near the USS Iowa. Occasionaly goes to sea manned by volunteers who stage mock battles with wwii aircraft for tourists who pay a fee.
