Just curious-but does anyone know where this was filmed? The scene at the fair near the ocean stands out.

That was Los Angeles. The funicular they ride is an historic landmark, closed for many years and now reopen, on Bunker Hill in downtown LA. The fair was shot at POP (Pacific Ocean Park), which was torn down many years ago; that was in Santa Monica.
