The necktie

What's the deal with it? What's it supposed to represent?

Wistfulness after a man? She has a tie, but no man to hang it on, so she chooses a tree as a wistful substitute?

OK, thanks, that makes sense. :)

Well, no, the last scene shows empathy for Andula, thought the music. A film that doesn't show any empathy for the main female character is Godard's Vivre sa vie (1962) for example.

I find the cinematography very good (intimate, playing with textures). And it reminds me the mood in Poland 15 years ago, when in fact such girls existed, so innocent, and the life consisted in poor things, almost nothing.... my favorite Milos Forman movie.
