I thought Carson had this movie destroyed
The story I heard was that Carson hated his appearance so much that he bought up all the copies of the film and burned them. I'm kind of surprised to see it around.

I thought that Carson was fine in this movie. I don't know why he hated himself in it.
Looks like he didn't get a hold of some copies....

Jim Hutton: talented gorgeous hot hunk; adorable as ElleryQueen; SEXIEST ACTOR EVER
When Carson hosted the Oscars (around 1980?) he said something like "Many of you may wonder how a television personality like myself gets to be a member of the Motion Picture Academy. I actually did make one movie, in 1964, entitled Looking For Love. To give you an idea of how bad this movie was, it is the only movie that has never ever been pirated." - So, this movie was his ticket to host the Oscars, also, he would mention it frequently on his show as the only movie he'd ever been in. Certainly, he would have had many more opportunities to be in movies if he'd wanted to, so presumably, he found the experience of appearing in this to be uninteresting enough to have never done it again.
shareI think it's a fun film. Harmless fluff....

💕 JimHutton (1934-79) and ElleryQueen 👍
It's an old, old strategy: make fun of yourself (or of your past) before someone else does.
That, and ridiculous theatrics make a story better. Put the two together, and there's Johnny, burning celluloid in his backyard.
Don't be surprised. No one can round up ALL the copies of any film. Not to mention the negatives. It's not possible; it's a big world and copies can be floating around anywhere.
shareConnie and Johnny often joked about her movies as she did not want to act but MGM insisted! She said her movies were so bad that she called to asked what time the movie started and the guy at the theater said " What time do you want it to start. I actually liked all of her movies except When The Boys Meet The Girls"
Johnny was joking with Connie when he said he bought the copies. They were friends.
Ted Turner acquired it.
Here's Carson talking about it:
