When Godzilla and Rodan along with Ghidorah
go over the cliff and into the water what happened to
Godzilla and Rodan? Comments are welcome

I always wondered about this too. I figure that since Godzilla is at home in the ocean that he had the upper hand under the water and thus Ghidorah had no choice but to retreat. But what does that mean for Rodan? I figure since both monsters can breathe on Planet X without any oxygen on it, then breathing under the water for long periods of time is no issue.

I'd always assumed they were knocked unconscious, and Ghidorah retreated while he could. After all, if he thought he'd killed them, he'd have stayed to finish his mission from the previous film.

I think they drove Ghidorah off too,then went into hibernation. The end was also a little like King Kong vs Godzilla as well.

I don't really see Rodan being the type to hibernate underwater, but who knows?

Well Rodan was still alive in Destroy All Monsters, so we can assume he survived.

I'm pretty sure the implication is that Godzilla and Rodan drove off Ghidorah. In the sequel though, Godzilla Versus the Sea Monster, the cast are surprised to find Godzilla alive on that island. So maybe the implication was that he was knocked out. (Or maybe not.)

I just watched the ending. There's a blue flash in the water just before Ghidorah retreats.
