Another so-so movie based on a wonderful book

This movie is a pale shadow of the book, Joy in the Morning, on which it is based, by Betty Smith, author of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. If seeing this movie leads you to read the book, it will have succeeded.

Yvette Mimieux is lovely, but just doesn't capture the smart, naive, optimistic Annie McGairy Brown of the book. Richard Chamberlain is handsome (as always) but flat. A very "60's" looking "roaring twenties". Read the book.
