my fave scene would have to be when Ray kisses Daisy, that was so cool.

No contest, my favorite scene in this film is Daisy's meltdown in the sound booth when she's re-recording the vocals for "The Circus is a Wacky World."

It's a wonderfully dramatic scene, but it's pretty bogus. Since the early 1930s, standard procedure has been to pre-record musical numbers and have the actors mime to the playback when the number is filmed. The final sound mix for that song would have been in the can weeks earlier, so there would be no need for Daisy to re-dub her own vocals.

It would be more authentic if the scene had taken place on the soundstage where the number was being filmed, and if the director had made Daisy do take after take because he wasn't satisfied with her lip-synching. But it's a lot more dramatic when we see her screaming her head off in the soundproof recording booth but we can't hear her.

I have to say the featurette within the movie showcasing Daisy, the ingenue, is my personal favorite. So typical of Warner Bros. 30's musicals, but with that 60's mod thing going on too. Plus, the song, 'You're Going to Hear From Me".

If you're talking about that film that Plummer introduces introducing Daisy, I liked that too. I love when it finishes and Plummer says, "Well, the world has met Daisy Clover...now Daisy Clover meets the world."

it's so wonderfully over the top, something Busby Berkely would have done in the 60's. however it's the costumes and "space age" look of this scene that are particularly anachronistic. but "you're gonna hear from me" is one of the best and most memorable tunes dory & andre previn ever created (before mia farrow broke up the act by stealing andre away).

When Wade wipes off Daisy's clown make-up and most parts with Natalie and Robert Redford. :) They're so cute together.

The screen test version Of "You're Gonna hear from Me", because it's partly sung by Natalie herself, and the simple innocence she projects as an unschooled, but talented person not yet jaded by the Hollywood system.

Did anyone else get the impression that the story was very loosely based on the early career of Judy Garland?

reply

Oh yeah. "And then the Prince of Darkness took you in his arms." Christopher Plummer was great in this part--so much sexier than Redford in this movie. Yum.

I've always remembered that scene where Raymond Swan kisses Daisy as the most erotically charged moment in my young movie going life (I was 17). When I see the movie now, it's kind of hilarious. But I still love Christopher Plummer's evil-sexy performance.

That scene was the first time I was ever erotically movied by a film also. Even now it works me up.. I was a bit younger than you. I must have been ..like.. 14 or so. That was a very very sexy scene.

My favorite scene is at the end when she's attempting suicide by sticking her head in the oven and she just keeps on getting interrupted. It's hysterically funny! And then she finally walks out of her beach house, leaving the gas on, and then KA-BOOM!

The meltdown scene in the booth--when you can hear her screaming from outside.
