doesn't hold a candle to the book

The book on which this film, is based [ Night of Wenceslas by Lionel Davidson] is so good that I urge you all to read it, instead of viewing this film. I was quite disappointed in the watered-down screenplay and mediocre acting for what could have been an excellent movie with the right actors and director-- Hitchcock, for instance, or someone of his calibre.
