Should there be a remake?

Because Hollywood has run out ideas and can do no better than just do remakes of old British classics (Get Carter, The Italian Job etc), do you think The Hill should be remade for a more contemporary audience?

Personally I would say "no". If it aint broke don't fix it! But then again if such a film was ever remade it probably wouldn't be set in a British prison camp with British actors and their "unintelligible" accents. Instead it will probably take place in a US prison somewhere in the Middle East.

Such a film may have an appeal for some demographic groups but whether it will be filmed in black & white; retain its dark, depressing atmosphere, as well as a lack of a happy ending and music remains a moot point.

NO WAY, JOSE. Look at how many times, they tried to remake a movie or TV show of an orignial and they flunk.

I'm trying to come to terms with the concept that Bush would be intelligent enough to sit down and watch this movie, much less be able to understand it.

No. Can't do it.

Definitely No.IMO the greatest British film ever.
Look at those other classic that were remade,Get Carter and Alfie.Absolutely dire.

reply

No of course, this film was already very advanced for its time.

reply

God no, no re-make. The original is as good as the film can be, "Hollywood" would kill it, just like they did with The Haunting.

I've said there shouln't be one myself. A remake would probably include a bunch of styleized flashbacks. Not that I'm 100% against flashbacks, but that would just cheapen it.

No-but Rigby wrote a sequel,"Hill of Sand.".I'd like to see that filmed.

reply

Please God, don't let hollywood anywhere near this fantastic film.

Should there be a remake, most emphatically no but if they get silly & do a remake lets set it in a Butlins Holiday Camp with a Warren Mitchell look alike as R.S.M. Wilson (him & Jacko should get on like a house on fire), a Peter Sellers look alike as the Commandant, a Lenny Henry look alike as Jacko, Mike Myers as Harris, a Jim(Chalkie)Davidson look alike as Bartlett & a Kenneth Williams look alike as Stevens, oh behave.

To anyone outside the UK reading this….don’t ask, it would take too long to explain.

Remakes suck. Nothing but a blatant attempt for money. Not interested.

Not only shouldn't be done. I don't think it could be done. Too cerebral for todays Hollywood.

It's like Glengarry Glen Ross you only catch lightning in a bottle like that once.

You can make something like it but it would not eclipse or even equal it.

Glangarry ... is a wonderful film, with a lush script and superior acting, yet so under-rated and largely forgotten at the box office.

And of course the film contained one of the best cameos ever - step forward Alec Baldwin!

Great films like 'garry and The Hill, are few and far between. Sometimes Hollywood does get it right, but by and large when it comes to remakes of classics & film noir, they get it soooooo badly wrong!

And I looked & I beheld a pale horse & the name that sat on him was Death & Hell followed with him.

No - remakes rarely work. Anyone want to have a bash at the works of Shakespeare?
