Sandy Mackendrick loses his touch.

I think that Alexander 'Sandy' Mackendrick had really lost his touch as a film director by the time he filmed "A High Wind in Jamaica" in 1964 and it really only has three things going for it...CinemaScope; colour and Deborah Baxter. It's passable, but nowhere near as good as Mackendrick's previous film, "Sammy Going South", which was made two years earlier (I'm not referring to the savagely cut American version, "A Boy Ten Feet Tall", which had forty minutes...a third of the film...hacked from it so that it would fit onto a double bill, but the original full length British release).
