Good film but...

I disagree with a previous comment about how this film shows the English being depicted as the heroes and the Cypriots the villains. It is quite obvious that the British are shown as an occupation force subduing a restless hostile Cypriot population pushing for independence. The film itself is a fine blend of politics, intrigue and action. However I think the one gaping weakness is the apparent love interest that blossoms between Bogarde's and Strasberg's characters. It looked so overly contrived when Juno asks McGuire to kiss her because she said he loved her. I appreciate films generally have to have a love interest to appeal to as wide an audience as possible but given the shocking events that had just overtaken Juno's life it look totally false that in the mean time she's fallen in love with the irascible and cantankerous McGuire. BTW I thought Denholm Elliot put in a good performance as the ostensible drunkard but in fact is a guardian angel.

"Evans, who was it? Who shot you?"
