The woman with the baby that Douglas boards the ferry to save - at the end, I saw him with the baby - what happened to the mother?

She survived and she's on the boat.

I thought the ending was awesome--I loved it when the train engine fell into the water while the ferry was sinking.

It was great but I couldn't figure out why Kirk had the baby and it looked like there were four people on the boat. I never saw her fall out so I was curious. Thanks, buddy.

If you watch this in pan and scan, you can't see all the people in the boat, because only half the image can be seen. When seen in full CinemaScope / Panavision, you can see that there are nine people in the boat and that the woman with the baby is snuggling up to Kirk Douglas.
