Why is the TCM print shorter?

The length on IMDB is listed as 167 minutes and 156 for the TCM print.

Why is the TCM version 11 minutes shorter?

reply

It isn't, necessarily. TCM more than likely has the 167 minute print. However, they just haven't changed the length of the running time. When they first aired 1776, one of my favorites, I set my timer for the length they had given, which was the film's original release time. However, what they aired was actually the Director's Cut, which was almost a half-hour longer. While it was great to see, my timer cut out on me, so I had to wait until the next viewing. The same thing happened when the aired The Alamo, I believe. I'm sure they're showing the complete version.

I'm not sure, but I wonder if TCM cuts out the overture and intermission like Encore Westerns does.

As a rule, they don't.

I have an old two set VHS which has a scene just before the morning of the exchange, in which the color is a bit off, this scene isn't in the TCM which I just saw tonight

The movie should have been an hour shorter.

reply

Because they felt sorry and wanted to inflict less pain on their viewers!

Or at least 1/2 hour shorter.
