Newman's complete score

Although at times serious, sober and sombre, nonetheless as one Amazon review says, it's glorious stuff. Especially glorious is the Hallelujah music Newman wrote for the raising of Lazarus and the resurrection of Jesus scenes. Only a small bit of it appears in the Lazarus scene, foreshortened by Stevens' direction, and merged with Handel's Messiah, again at Stevens' direction. Ditto for Jesus' resurrection, only worse - no part of Newman's music is heard, but only the Handel.

Now we have the opportunity of hearing not only the full score, but especially the powerful, uplifting "glory music" Newman wrote and intended for the film. The below seems, as of current date and afaik, to be the definitive edition:

Listening to the score all the way through will show the concert-type work Newman put into it, in the way he weaves the various themes in and out of the aural fabric. It will also show that Newman did write a score of some force and power, and that Steven's madness mutilated Newman's fine original work.

Full details of the massacre of Newman's score can be found in Ken Darby's book "Hollywood Holyland" - which perhaps you've read?

Thanks very much for the link - some of it sounds familiar but some is new to me.
