seeing the movie in 1965

I just watched The Great Race for the first time since seeing it in 1965 at the theater. Thanking TCM for showing it!! In it's entirety. I remember enjoying the movie immensely, but very few details had remained with me clearly except the great pie fight. Being in a theater can be an audience participation event and the pie fight was just that. Much like the cheers or the boos and hisses of the silent films, the pie fight had that kind of reaction. When Tony Curtis as the Great Leslie, in his nice white ice cream suit was finally hit in the face with a pie, the theater erupted in applause. You cannot get that kind of fun feeling watching a movie at home.

There are some cast interviews from the movie openings on Youtube at:

Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEumvnlS0us
and
Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_dOPEEkeyI

They may give you that 1965 feeling all over again. :)

Even 52 YEARS later there's not been another movie like this that beats it!!!!

I laugh every time I watch it and Jack is so great to watch as Professor Fate and the Prince.

Tony and he are so funny in this and with Marilyn Monroe in Some Like It Hot.

They don't make movies like those anymore and if they do try to do a remake it's NEVER as good!!!

Be weird to watch Mary Poppins 2 (when they make it) after all this time but they'll never be able to beat The Great Race!!! Lol
