I believe this song hit the top of the charts in the summer of 65, right up there with Help by the Beatles.

No, it didn't hit the top of the charts, at least not the Top 40. If it hit, it was below forty or maybe just hit in certain markets. It certainly was not because of the picture, which bombed.

"Klaatu barada nikto"

Even better: the Byrds-esque "That's the Way It's Got to Be."

Sorry, no link!

"That's the way it's gotta be" is among what gives this film it's cult class. It was perfomed by the British group the Poets, who were managed by Andrew Loog Oldham--who was also the manager of the Rolling Stones at the time.

i completely agree. TO HAVE & TO HOLD by THE DISTANT COUSINS is one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs ive ever heard. a true lost gem from 1965. a real shame it never got any true airplay, it had all the earmarks of a big hit on the pop charts. hearing this song when i was a little kid actually made me a fan of the movie. i find it very interesting, fun & all around entertaining. it has 60s charm.

THE OLDSCHOOL HERO!
