SOS Pacific: progenitor/ Sands of the Kalahari: contemporaneous

Just watching the 1959 film SOS Pacific and there's so much in common with Flight of the Phoenix, even the same actor in Richard Attenborough.
And Sands of the Kalahari was made the same year 1965, and has so much in common also: a small plane, guy with a monkey. Crash in the desert. The only difference is there was a woman and the plane blew up.
