Just didn't get it.

After reading the reviews and hearing all the ravings I was able to catch the film and watched it in its entirety much to my dismay. While fully aware that this film was extremely low budget, acting was beyond reprehensible and storyline staggeringly stupid in some perverse way I thought I'd find some entertainment factor out of it. Sadly, it didn't happen. Sadly, 80 minutes of my life of which I'll never get back had been wasted. While there is something to be said about films that are so bad they're good there is also something to be said about films that are so bad, that they're just that...BAD. "Faster Pussycat" falls in the later. Much of the celebration regarding this film is that it empowers women, well okay but big flippin deal and who really cares, if me want's to feel empowered I can entice my husband of 25 yrs, who's just arrived home from a long's day work and get him to do the freaky with me...yes I wrote that. All kidding aside, I simply didn't get the appraisal this film received and as such will leave a link to a truly great "Bad" film, to indicate how and what my feelings are to those who may feel otherwise, adieu.

The acting was one of my favourite parts of the film. All of the actors seemed to really get in their roles, and the campy style of delivery was part of that. There is a down to earth quality about low budget films that I really like - you can tell the actors probably had a lot of fun doing them. I agree that the storyline left a lot to be desired though.

Err.. I wouldn't really call this a "bad" film though, it's actually quite masterful in what it's doing. But you're right, I don't think you "got it". Not everybody will, we all have different tastes and interests.

The praise for it wasn't limited to female empowerment. If you knew anything about film (which, not to be mean, but it doesn't seem like you do because you didn't make any mention of the directing or composition) you'd know that a lot about how it was shot and the subtle sexual symbolism was actually quite genius. Ahead of its time, really. The writing, particularly the one-liners, are wry and wonderfully cynical.

But you're right, the acting was atrocious and the story line quite boilerplate. But it's a technical achievement, not an entertainment piece. Similar to Night of the Hunter. In a way, you could call it highly original source material or an instruction manual. Strictly for film lovers, not thrill seekers.

If you watch the films of Quentin Tarantino right after FPKK, for instance, you'll see how much of its style he incorporated into his films (the most obvious being the score for the film).

Well, I thought it was a wonderfully entertaining film. It kept me interested the entire time it was on and that's all I want from a film. The acting was great, especially from Tura Satana who is one of the most badass female characters I have ever seen in a film. I'm glad I watched this film and I can see why so many people love it.

Come, fly the teeth of the wind. Share my wings.

You are certainly correct. It's funny that you should respond to my post today, because I was just watching interviews with her on YouTube last night and thought she seemed very kind. So similar to her character yet completely different. I miss her very much.

I've been waiting for you, Ben.

I'm with you OP. I guess that I didn't get it either. I've seen several Russ Meyer films and am rather unimpressed. Sure, he's good with the camera. He has some nice compositions and very clean, sharp images, but the dull storylines and amateurish acting always leave me scratching my head. I get the feeling that Meyer's reputation rests on just two things: 1) tackling sexuality in a way that was original for its time, and 2) his dexterity with a camera. OK, that makes him a trailblazer for the former and a good technician for the latter, but those things alone don't add up to good movies. I'd have more respect for him if his movies were actually entertaining.

Another poster mentioned "The Night of the Hunter," but not terribly positively. I found that interesting because I rate that film as one of the best movies of the fifites, if not all time. Russ Meyer never made a movie remotely near that quality, certainly not "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! I totally understand that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but to me, this title is the film equivalent of "The Emperor's New Clothes."

I understand where you guys are coming from. First time I watched this, I was utterly disappointed. I didn't like his sense of humor and it just felt really bad, and "Up!" is just atrocious. I don't care, but that one I am not visiting again because that one especially felt like it tried way too hard.

Anyways, I then went to watch "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" which was not bad, I sort of likecd it, then got to "Vixen!" which is silly in it's own way, but pretty sexy... so after all that I decided to give FPKK another try, and it's pretty good! I like it more now. I think it's just bad when it catches you off gaurd, other than that I love John Waters films. He was why I started with Russ, but... i don't know. Give it another go?

WARNING: I'M SEXY!

If you can write all that about this film, it means you don't like girls with big tits.

This film has some women with big tits in it. and that's pretty much it.
