If they would do a remake who would you cast?

Probably Robin Williams or Jim Carrey
They are the funniest men in showbiz for this kind of biz
and Dakota Fanning, well she's the kid in every movie...

Any ideas?

I agree mostly, but I think Fanning is much too good an actress for this stupid romp. I doubt her agents would want her in it. Martin Lawrence would also be good in the bodyguard/multiple-character role.

However, I'm not sure Robin Williams or Jim Carrey could carry off playing seven different parts well enough. Ok, I haven't seen this movie in years, but I remember being only pereferally aware that the same guy was playing all those parts. I think Robin Williams or Jim Carrey would be too obvious in mltiple parts (like Jim Carrey was in a Series of Unfortunate Events). I think Johnny Depp might be able to pull it off though.

I couldn't see Johnny Depp playing such a role. Sure he's talented, but not THAT talented! If I had to choose between Robin Williams and Jim Carrey, my choice would be Carrey. Both actors are very talented, but I think Carrey could play a much more zany character. Williams can do multiple voice caricatures, but Carrey would be better able to pull it off.

Actually I could see Depp doing it he has the most talent of all of them and he's about the right age and he would do it with less mugging then Carrey. He also has the needed tenderness to play Willard..As for Donna I think a newcomer is needed.

I just hope they never do remake it. I hate it when Hollywood remakes movies that were good to begin with. There's way too much new material out there that could be used if only they gave it a look.

I wouldn't want to see a remake, but if there was one, Eddie Murphy would be a good choice. He can certainly play multiple characters.

I think Jim Jarmusch should do a remake of Family Jewels, but he should make it as a serious drama rather than a comedy, with different actors playing the uncles. And this time the twist is that the chauffer turns out to be the illgeitimate son of the girl's grandfather, so he would be able to become her guardian.

reply

Come now, we must make it a family oriented wholesome movie. One that you can bring your grandparents to. One that can watch from 3 to 93.

Though I agree, it should be different characters for the uncles, and the professions much more realistic.

Steve Martin and Bill Murray could be a couple of uncles.

The kid should be a little bit older than nine...maybe 13, 14. And not necessarily a girl...maybe a teenage boy with six aunts...

I once heard Jerry Lewis say on Larry King Live that he would choose Jim Carrey for the remake. I'm not sure just how long ago that was, though.

Tyler Perry could pull off 7 roles, I think. He has the comedy chops and acting range along with tenderness the role calls for. Years ago I would have said Raven for the girl but she has out grown it.

reply

I'd go with Jim Carrey, because he did a similar collection of characters when he was in the movie "A Series Of Unfortunate Events".
