Really enjoyed the first half of the film, second

SPOILER SPOILER

half is more typical "Chase Dracula back to his castle for the standard ending." Instead of Van Helsing and John Harker, it's Father Sandor and Charles.

The buildup in the first half is quite good. When Klove shows up and not Dracula, it just makes you wonder if things will really turn out all so bad. I mean Klove serves them dinner, has their luggage unpacked, etc.

Then Alan gets nosey (I would have stayed in the room) and ends up, well let's just say they should have spent the night in the shack where the driver stranded them.

I agree. The first half was absolutely amazing, but the second half could've used a bit more work. Overall though, I loved the movie and thought it was the best of the series.

Come, fly the teeth of the wind. Share my wings.

I definitely felt the pacing was off. The first half is very slow and measured whereas events seem to fly by in the second half. They should either sped up the events of the first half or, preferably, have slowed things down a touch in the second half where it seemed like they were trying to cram stuff in.

Stay the night in the shack? Why not just walk the 2km (just under a mile and a quarter) to Carlsbad? They could've been there in maybe twenty minutes.

No way I would have stayed in the castle, esp after the Father's warnings. The stage driver was scared too. The castle isn't on the map? How many hints do you need? Of course, the shack isn't too far from the castle.

The first half set the tone of the movie & it is superior to the 2nd half but that in no way means the movie lags or is a "snoozefest". It is one of my favorite, if not the most favorite, Dracula movie.

The build up in the first half of the film is excellent, to get the full dread you have to watch it alone, and by alone i mean no one else in the house but you, at around 3am.

But there is no Dracula in the first half of the movie. All his scenes were in the 2nd half
